An important message to our patients

June 30, 2026

Dear Patients,

I am writing to share deeply painful news with you.

Dr. Jack O'Brien, Co-founder of Haven Health and the Physician so many of you know and love, passed away on June 27, 2026. He was 36 years old. The Haven team is still processing this loss, and we know many of you will be too.

Jack had a gift for making people feel seen. It's what drew him to medicine in the first place, and it's what made him such a remarkable physician. He was extremely proud to be a Board-Certified Family Medicine Physician and HIV Specialist devoted to LGBTQ+ health. But if you were his patient, you already know that.

Jack’s form of care was the inspiration to build something bigger than himself. He co-founded Haven Health with Matty Brownell and me, built around the kind of care he believed every person deserved. His dream was for Haven to grow wide and impact as many lives as it could.

Haven will continue. Matty and I are committed to carrying forward the work the three of us started together and to keeping Jack's vision for this practice alive.

With Dr. O'Brien's passing, we have lost our Medical Director, which means the practice cannot legally operate until a new one is appointed. This includes Jake Collins, our incredible PA. As a result, appointments, medications, refills, clinical questions, and anything related to your medical care cannot be addressed at this time. We know this is incredibly frustrating and puts some of you in a difficult position.

We are working with an agency to place a Locum Tenens physician who will serve as our temporary Medical Director and allow us to resume clinical, patient-facing operations. We're hoping to have this in place by the end of next week, if not sooner, and are moving as quickly as possible to get there.

If you have a time-sensitive or urgent medical need, please visit your nearest urgent care center or emergency room, or call 911.
I'll share another update next week with a firmer timeline for the temporary Medical Director appointment, along with greater clarity on continuity-of-care options for Dr. O'Brien's patients.

Details on a Celebration of Life and ways to honor Jack's memory will be shared once plans are finalized. Given how many lives he touched, we expect it to be a big one. If you know of a venue, space, or resource that could help us plan something worthy of him, we'd love to hear from you. You can reach us at help@havenhealth.care.

We will continue to update you as things progress.
